Ryan Freel left today’s game in the third inning with an apparent head injury. Freel was taken to a local hospital for X-rays. He was nailed in the head with a pickoff throw while diving back into second base, but it’s unclear whether that or the faceplant he did on the dive led to his injury. Robert Andino took over for Freel, who was playing third base.

Adam Jones is not playing today after injuring his right hamstring during Sunday’s game. “I’m not going to be a hero,” said Jones, who has hit .372 with two homers and 12 RBI thus far. “It’s April 19. I’m smarter than that. There’s no need to try and blow it out now. We’ve still got six months to go.” He’s hoping to return Tuesday.

Koji Uehara surrendered just two runs over seven innings Sunday, but the Orioles fell to the Red Sox. Uehara struck out five batters against just one walk, but he wasn’t given much run support. It was a nice comeback performance after getting rocked in his second start of the season. He’s now 2-1 with a 5.29 ERA and will face the Rangers next time out.
